I'll second that, ZERO need to import stuff that is readily available as captive bred right here in Canada every year. Mark

I have seen a "Tame" Green Tree Python, but MOST of them are aggressive.....

Not ALL BCA's are mean......but a greater percentage ARE!!!

But if someone wants a tame snake.....get a rubber one!!!! Otherwise just enjoy what you have and dont try to change it!!!

Scott, where are you getting this information from? Is this from experience? Do you keep Bcas?
Please share.

Oh I dont know, maybe someone like Gus Rentfro(who has kept them for quite a while, in case you were not aware) Annette(Who ALSO breeds them)......

I keep a few different Boa's, Amarali's are NOT one of them.(not because of the temperment) , My collection is extreamly diverse and I have MANY,MANY "mean" snakes, and I do not try to make any misleading statements regarding them either.....There is NO such thing as a TAME snake.....Period...."always trust a snake to be a snake"

Just like Nicaraguan's generally are testy, Cay Caulkers CAN be testy(one of the ones I DO keep), Haitians tend to musk, Amazon's tend to BITE,........

Default Re: TARAS 2009 - Whatcha Get? Sorry about the hi-jack!

As I mentioned earlier. I believe the Bc amaralis that Annette has are not from the same sub species as the amaralis that I own. Possibly we are dealing here with the Bolivian type amarali v South Brazilian type amarali.

Like you Paul I keep many boas of different species and sub species. I also breed boas and pythons have done for a number of years. I also am the proud owner of a group of amaralis, which I intend to breed, having been unsuccessful so far. As I have already stated none of my Bcas have a mean bone in their body, .... and yes, I am fully aware of who Mr Gus Renfro of Rio Bravo Reptiles is.

As most of the current amarali population in N.America comes from the originally imported stock of 1982, I don't think anyone knows or could know which is the more abundant of the captive bred sub species of amarali. I know of at least three sources in Western Canada that carry (and have tried to breed) the 'orange crush' (South Brazilian) strain which was developed in the US by a number of breeders including Belknap. (see 'The Complete Boa Constrictor by Vin Russo - 2007 for more details).

For another interesting view on the controversy of Bcc v Bca see also ;

www.boa-constrictors.com/com/com.html

My point to this whole debate is to make potential Bc amarali owners aware that there is a line of amaralis available in this province that are naturally a gentle and beautiful boa, and are not the feisty, mean or ill tempered animal described. At least not under 'normal' conditions.

By the way anyone interested is welcome to visit my home and see these boas.

Sorry for hi-jacking this thread, but some misinformation needed addressing.
