He had them listed for $200 and was actively trying to sell them. I have screenshots of the ads and copies of all the emails he sent in which I let him know it was illegal to sell them and he started calling me names and swearing at me and telling me how I was just jealous that he was about to make $400 ... so I'm in the process of talking to somebody about that now. I don't know what, if anything, they'll be able to do but maybe they'll just call the guy and scare him a bit. Who knows.

I'm sorry ,but isn't it a bit over the top to report him to F&W ?? He might not know that they are illegal to sell. However that price....that is a good reason to report him...

Why would the price have anything to do with it? His attitude when told about the law shows that he doesn't care about that,if he was unaware his reply to Sirens message would have a different tone .

Exactly. I have seen people selling Red ears several times and I will usually just shoot them a quick, polite email saying it's illegal and why and they will usually reply thanking me profusely for telling them because they had no idea etc etc. Those people I don't bother reporting because they didn't know. Just because I know something doesn't mean it's common knowledge. They probably got sold the turtles in the first place not knowing it was illegal to buy them, so they are just re-selling them.

This guy was a total donkey's butt though. He was the one who started name-calling and gloating about how he wasn't going to get caught etc so ... if he wants to play that game, fine ... I'll play ... but I don't play very nice with others when they're big meanie-heads ... lol

Ok. Does anyone have any idea who I actually need to talk to in order to report this guy? I have been run around in circles for the past week trying to figure out who to talk to. I started out with fish and game who said, it's not them, it's a fellow by the name of Drew Mahaffey. I talked to Drew who said, I'm federal, you want something provincial try Alberta Health and Wellness. I phoned Alberta Health and Wellness and they said, talk to a Provincial Health Officer. I talked to a PHO and they said talk to Fish and Game.

This is ridiculous. How is it even possible that nobody knows who to report this to? Not only is it illegal under Fish and Game bylaw but it's a violation of the Public Health and Safety Act. You'd think SOMEONE would at least take the information even if they don't have the manpower to follow up. You'd think someone would know who these complaints need to be directed to.

Do any of you guys have a number I can call? I am not going to give up because, frankly, when you make me mad, I am a vindictive bee with an itch. There are very few things that anger me but, but once I'm angry, that's it. I WILL figure this out and I WILL pass this information on to the proper authorities if it takes months. It's just stupid that I have all this information, and by the time it gets to the right person the turtles will be LONG gone and there will be absolutely nothing anyone can do about anything at all.

It's not illegal under Fish and Wildlife law. The animals are legal to possess, and possession is all SRD cares about with exotic species.

This is a violation of [Alberta] Communicable Diseases Regulation, Section 10.1 (page 8)


This is enforced by the Chief Medical Officer of Health, through local representatives. In this case, I presume that to be: Alberta Health Services, Edmonton and Area; Public Health Division, Communicable Disease Control.

Either of the last two people you spoke to should be acting on this. Advise them of the nature of the violation, which is section 10.1 of the Communicable Diseases Regulation.
