Thats how my P. metallica molted the last time. I thought she was dying for sure.

In my limited experience, you should always assume a tarantula on its back is molting unless it's legs are curled inwards, it's stiff, and hasn't moved for 24 hours. Sounds like it's time to break out a camera and get some moltin' videotape!

Nice picture! Guess we know what she was getting ready for when she barricaded herself in her cup, eh?:) Try and save the molt and we might be able to sex it if its not too badly damaged.

I have caught nearly all my T's molting, but none of my scorpions :(

My little B.smithi just molted last night, ofcourse as soon as it was out it decided to climb to the top of its pill bottle.

Ha ha, I know hardly anything about tarantulas, but at the very least I know when they're not dead or dying. Several times I'd have to calm down people I used to work with because they insisted the tarantula was dead - staring at the molt in the front, the tarantula would be watching them in the corner. Nothing as beautiful as you have though - we all had rosies and pink toes. Puurrrrdy.
