LOL Cool stuff, tho I would double check if it is safe to handly them 10 times over myself. I know some can be a little dangerous like.

i think your thinking of centipedes millipedes are harmless

Not all millipedes...

Neat looking critter, I'm sure watching all those legs march is quite entertaining.

05-27-2008, 05:53 PM
what kind of millipedes??

05-27-2008, 05:55 PM
Some can make you ill with the defensive toxins they secrete, but no deadly millipedes I heard of. Same with centipedes, the only recorded death with centipedes was a little girl in the Philippines I think? Still not something you want to get bitten by!

oh well i don't think i'll be eating any millipedes any time . or licking my hands after i touch one.

Cool... If ever I was going to get an invertebrate, the millipedes would be it... Are they able to live communually? I can't remember, yet used to look after a couple in the pet store many years ago... For some reason, they didn't make me nervous like the tarantulas and scorpions...

I totally agree that is where i fell in love with them, at the store i worked at. I bonded with a black one though, and the reds would just pee on me. So I was scared to get the red ones. Yes they can live in a community.

I have to agree--ifI ever go for an invert, it would be a millipede. Somehow, they sort of manage to be cute-ish. I held one once in Florida. It was black and had wicked bright orange legs. No idea what kind but it's feet were like sticky velvet and I had to peel it off my arm. So weird to feel it walk!! Good luck with yours. :)

Too bad they are illegal now, stupid government!

05-27-2008, 11:14 PM
They are not illegal "now." :p

Nothing changed since all non-pest invertebrates (herbivore and potential bee predators)... just they haven't legalized millipedes yet.

Right maybe I was thinking about when they use to be sitting out in the open at shows, my bad. They are pretty interesting little critters, if I had known some were available I would of picked a couple up.
