I was making my usual early morning rounds today when I spotted that this girl had just molted. Couldn't get real clear pic's as I didn't want to disturb her. The male molted about a week ago so now I hope they'll get busy:)

By the time I got home tonight she was back to her normal coloration.

I don't know much about inverts ( meaning i don't know anything) why do they molt into something clear and then get their colors? does this happen with most inverts?
(sweet pics by the way!)

The new exoskeleton is formed underneath the existing exoskeleton and is soft. When the invert molts the new exoskeleton is revealed but is still soft. The invert will flex, pump up and expand the new exoskeleton while it is still soft. As the new exoskeleton dries it returns to a more normal color.
As you can imagine they are very vulnerable while they are soft and this is a dangerous time for them.
